Query about electric utilities

Hi,

Am travelling to salz sometime next week. Just needed to check if Salz has the same power plugs as UK or do I need to carry the converters / adaptors..

Austria has the same voltage as UK so you can use UK appliances but it uses European power plugs so you%26#39;ll need to get some European adaptors. I think they are the two rectangular-pin jobbies - which I believe is the standard European power plug.

I thought two rectangular type jobbies are a standard BRITISH power plug.

If you have no grounding you can look for a plug adaptor for European standards (two round prongs). Grounding is done different in different countries; Austria uses German standard (two side contacts)

Ach, yes - 2 round pins on European plugs! Sorry - the 2 rectangular ones I was thinking of are the US powerplugs (different from the rectangular bits on the UK ones)

rol, thoroughly confused

Hotels usually keep adaptors. We forgot ours one year and the hotel had a box full of them.

I will be travelling from the U.S. in September, visiting Munich for two nights, Salzburg for four nights, and then the rest of my trip in Switzerland. Will I be able to use the same adaptor for all three locations?

Yes, ungrounded electrical outlets on the continent are the Round pin plug. http://www.kropla.com/!c.htm

“The two rectangular-pin jobbies” used in the USA are correctly refered to as a Flat blade plug. http://www.kropla.com/!ab.htm

The plug used in the UK is the Rectangular blade plug. http://www.kropla.com/!g.htm

Info about worldwide electric plugs is at - http://www.kropla.com/electric2.htm

Outlets in Switzerland are different to Austria and Germany - 3 round pins ina very flat triangle. The 2 pin round adaptors don%26#39;t fit.
