Hi Biganothony,

The following web sites provide useful and extensive info on Vienna. I believe a picture speaks a thousand words. Please print out those info pages or buy a small pocket guide book or a more comprehensive one if you stay longer. With maps and place descriptions, you will appreciate them better.

http://www.aboutvienna.org/

http://info.wien.at/

The amazing photos of Vienna can be seen here:

http://www.molon.de/galleries/Austria/Vienna/

I recommend the following key attractions:

Inner Stadt (Inner City encircled by a Ring Boulevard/Ringstrasse):

- Hofburg complex (Imperial Apartments, National Library

a.k.a Osterreichische Bibliotek, Spanish Riding School, Neu Burg.

- Graben %26amp; Kartner Strasse (shopping streets with grand buildings

including State Opera House)

- St Stephen Cathedral (Stephandom), the heart of the city and Inner

Stadt. When you get lost, you can either reach the Ringstrasse or

go to the Stephandom Platz. Scrolling in Vienna is that easy!

- Am Hof (former Jewish quarter) %26amp; Freyung (the square which

features Kinsky Palace and a lovely church.

Ringstrasse %26amp; its surroundings (tram no. 1 %26amp; 2 cover Ringstrasse) :

- Rathaus (Town hall), Burg Theater (across the road).

- House of Parliament (see the Pallas Athene fountain)

- Kunshistorisches %26amp; Nuturhistorisches Museums are two mirror

buildings that resemble a palace. Burggarten is across the road

where Monument of Mozart is erected.

- Museum Quarter (opposite the twin museums) for modern art.

- KarlsKirche (Karls Church), a lovely baroque church that has Taj

Mahal inspired columns.

- Stadtpark (City Park) features monument of Johann Strauss.

Within the city :

- Belvedere Palace (take tram 71 or tram D)

- Schonbrunn Palace (take U4 and stop at Schonbrunn)

K+K Maria Theresia is in the street behind Museum Quarter, so Kunshistorisches Museum is across the road which is in Ringstrasse and there are various metro stations within 5 minutes walk. It is a good hotel with quiet location but yet with shops and international restaurants around.

Excursions from Vienna :

- Grinzing; take tram 38 from Schonttentor (closest winenery where

one can dine and drink while listening to traditional music).

http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Grinzing

- Wachau Region (1 hour+ from Vienna) :

- Melk (for the Melk Abbey monastery), note that the monastery is

only open to visitor from 01 March to 01 November.

- Durnstein %26amp; Krems

Happy New Year!

The K and K hotel is well located for sightseeing- a short walk to many and to public transport.

Refer to recent Trip advisor reviews for some good info and location map.

You do not mention the time when you visit - or how you travel Vienna - Salzburg ( your time in each place seems good to me)

The town of Melk and its Abbey is just off the autobahn if you drive or an easy connection by train. A good excursion from Vienna,

Contrary to above poster- the Abbey is open for touring year round- winter ( November- march) tours 11 and 2

summer a nice day excursion to Melk including a boat trip down the danube to Krems. through the Wachau vally Then train back to Vienna from Krems- less than 40 euro inclusive.

Perhaps it is best for you to look at the good info on the Vienna tourist website

www.info.wien.at

it will provide good description of sights and locations including available transport.

All of us like different things and this offers a good place for you to see those things you enjoy.

Most look to see

Hofburg Palace

Schönbrunn Palace

Stehansdom.

Belvedere palace.

Liechtenstein Palace and Museum with one of the best private collections of art in the world in a beautifully resored palace.

Kunsthaus and nearby Hundertwasser House

many overlook the fantastic

Not to be missed a music evening- Vienna- agood musical capital of the World

State Opera

Volksoper

Musikverein

Konzerthaus-

all offer excelent performances

Romantic restaurant-

again each likes different things-

I like

city center Do%26amp; Co across from Stephansdom- fantastic views -

Avoid Grinzing- tourist trap-unless you know the few good places- if you look for a heuriger with good food and wine go to the Neustiftam Walde area great food. ashort taxi ride .

All olaces- just walk in and have a look.

Enjoy your visit !

I%26#39;ve stayed in K+K Maria Theresia two weeks ago. It is central and a very nice hotel (If you wish see my post of yesterday with my trip report).

Enjoy Vienna.
