Hi Elly,

Sorry to interrupt your post.

Budapest is slightly more expensive (probably 10% - 20%) than Prague and Vienna is even more expensive (probably 30%-50%) depending on places and things you spend on.

I always wonder how Prague manages to be one of the least expensive cities (except for non hostel accommodation) in Western and Central Europe. But don%26#39;t tell that to Czech who thinks Prague is expensive. Copenhagen and Oslo (THE most expensive city in Europe) will be a serious pinch to your pocket.

You can however get by Euro75 in Vienna if you know where to stay and eat. Lonely Planet has a section for budget travel and tips and there is a guide book called %26quot;Europe on Shoestring%26quot;.

You can stay in a hostel or pension house for under Euro 30. If you eat in university cafes, or buy your food from supermarket, you save a lot during the day and spend a bit more for dinner. There are cheap diners around the city. Eatery outside ringstrasse tends to be cheaper too. You can have a decent dinner for under euro 8 including drink.

Hello again:

Vienna can be as expensive or as inexpensive as you wish.

A budget of 75 euro per day is possible.

I do not know of any single rooms for 30 euro per night, as mentioned above that most anyone would stay in or has a location that is minimally satisfactory.

I would look to

www.wombats-hostels.com

Their new place %26quot; The Lounge %26quot;recently opened - a good location - new clean -very near to westbahnhof ( airport transfer bus stop -6euro ) and just 10 minutes to city center by U-bahn U-3 from a stop very close by. ( 3 stops to the Ringstrasse 4 to city center at Herrengasse then 2 minute walk to the Hofburg Palace.

You can take the streetcar #58 from a stop nearby to Palace Schönbrunn in 10 minutes- much shopping and restaurants nearby.

Many pensions mentioned elsewhere are ok but probably more expensive.

Perhaps best to have your largest meal at midday- best specials then.

I like Reinthalers Beisl on Dorotheergasse next to Graben, Restaurant Smutny . ( Elisabethstrasse 8 - very near to the State Opera ) offer good food , ample portions and moderate price.

Another good place , a little more expensive Pürstner ( www.puerstner.com ) in First district.

Try a wurst from one of the many kiosks- cheap good and quick.
