Zell Am Zee

We would like to spend a few nights in Zell am Zee in June. We have a few questions for anyone who has been before. Is the public transport reliable? Is it straight forward to get from the airport? Any suggestions on what to do in and around the resort (we are not climbers but can walk a few miles) and a good 4* hotel? Is it reasonably practical to drive to Tuscany or is there a direct train service??

Many Thanks

I haven%26#39;t stayed at Zell but know it quite well. The trains from Salzburg to Zell are swift and efficient. If you%26#39;re driving it%26#39;s a straightforward drive on the autobahn. You%26#39;re quite close to the Hochalpenstrasse where you can drive up into the Grossglockner region and then further on to Italy if you like. We did a day trip from Salzburg to Heiligenblut but also went as far as Lienz. It%26#39;s only about twenty miles from Lienz to the Italian border and you can see the Dolomites. Tuscany would, I think, be much too far away.

At Zell itself you can take the cable car up the Schmittenhohe mountain. The veiws from the top are breathtaking and you can see at least thirty mountain peaks from there. The boat trips around the lake are excellent too. Zell is quite touristy but beautiful and well worth a visit.

I have loads of excellent photos of Zell and the Grossglockner region. If you%26#39;d like to see them email me on:
