Ski-ing in Niederau, Austria

Me and my girlfriend are going ski-ing in Niederau, Austria, in Februrary (3rd Feb - 10th) and are staying at the Hotel Sonnschein. Can anyone give us any information on what this hotel and resort are like? for example, how close the slopes really are to the hotel, how the snow is around the Niederau area in February, apres ski etc. any information or personal experiences will be of great help.

Thanks.

Did you book the hotel and trip without getting the information you now request?

Niederau ia a village in the Wild schonau area of the Kitzbuehler Alps.

It is a relatively small village , with several others nearby that have a common lift system to my knowledge, mostly easy to middle ski terrain

look at

www.wildschoenau.at for more info.

You can probably get information for your hotel there too.

All resorts have seen huge amounts of snow so far this year. Hopefully this will continue for the skiers.

Hello Vertical,

we found out enough information to go ahead with the holiday but we feel there is no better knowledge than personal experience, plus we have read several different brochures and each has slightly different resort information which is a bit confusing.

Thanks for your reply.

If anyone else has any information please feel free.

Thanks.

The hotel was very good and very close to the slopes, only a few minutes walk. We went last year in Feb half term and had great snow. We (family of four) are a mixture of beginners, intermediates and advanced and there was something for everybody. I do think it is more of a family resort and we (as a family) stayed in the hotel during the evening in the bar area so can%26#39;t say much about any possible apres ski in the resort. The pool etc are fine. We did see couples there but only a few don%26#39;t know if people without children avoid the half term!)- maybe it was that hotel but the resort itself is quite small. Hope this is useful. The hotel was very comfortable and had a nice atmosphere and the slopes are great.

Thanks very much that is very helpful, its nice to know someone else went there and had a good time. Were there plenty of slopes there to keep you busy for 6 days? Our ski pass covers 3 mountains, the Niederau, the Oberau and the Auffach, have you any idea how close these are together as our only form of transport will be our ski%26#39;s! Was the food in the hotel nice?

Thanks again for your help.

I think there is quite a good choice of slopes and I%26#39;m sure there are ways of getting to all the various ones. We were with skischool the whole time and went to a few different runs (blues and reds). My partner and elder son went on blacks but there are only a few of these.

Food at hotel was good to very good. Quad room was large and airy, modern and clean with plenty of space for ski stuff. Enjoy. Staff very helpful. Gill the owner is English and was very helpful.

Don%26#39;t know the hotel but stayed in Niederau last year in Feb and had a very good time - great snow, really pretty, lift queues OK. I am an advanced skier and found enough for the 4 days I was there, however not sure I would have enjoyed as much had I not had a rental car. There are ski buses but the ski areas and villages are quite spread out. There are some nice restaurants but as other respondent advises it is more a %26quot;gemuetlich%26quot; family area. Enjoy!

My hubby and I stayed in Niederau in January 2006 and we were both beginners. We were in the Hotel Austria but some of the people in our ski school were in the Sonnschein. It was about a five minute walk from there to our hotel where the ski and boot rooms are for those staying at the Sonnschein. The ski school, ski bus stop, nursery slopes and gondola are all right beside the Austria Hotel. The Cave Bar near your hotel (under the Hotel Staffler) is ok but the best atmosphere and fun is in the Sports Bar beside the Hotel Austria on the main road through the village. The tobogganing is fantastic fun, would recommend it. The snow was really good when we were there in Jan and our instructor seemed to think that the resort didn%26#39;t need any more. Don%26#39;t know what level you are at but the Wildschonau Ski School was fantastic and by the end of the week we were skiing on the easier parts of red runs. Ski bus to the other areas is free. Queues were ok, but we were there in a quiet week.
