St.Wolfgang

Can anyone advise us on the best options for a family of three (two adults one 13yr old travelling from Salzburg airport to St Wolfgang and also the aproximate cost of Taxis/buses it may cost?

It may seems a daft question but does it normally snow around 28/1206 -4/1/07?!?

We have booked a small aparthotel on a room only basis. Can anyone advise the best place to go to eat/entertainment etc?

We are looking to spend the festive spirit in St Wolfgang and would appreciate if anyone can advise where the best places to go/things to do for a family to enjoy. i.e. restaurants/sleigh rides/cable cars/ice skating etc?

We look to hearing your reply

Kind Regards

Oebb.com gives 2 hours 10 on the bus, changing in Salzburg at the Railway Station and Strobl where there is a small interchange. You will drive round the Wolfgangsee to get there. I can%26#39;t get a price out of the website but its likely to be 15 € adult single or less.

The best idea for a taxi may be to ask the hotel for recommendations and prices.

There is a rack railway up the local mountain, I guess weather permitting.

Thanks Big Dave...Do we use the bus 150 and what is the other connecting bus to St wolfgang that we need?

It is bus 150 from Salzburg Hauptbahnhof to Strobl busbahnhof (basically a bus carpark, out in the open, with about four busstops in a row). You can transfer onto Bus 2560 which will be parked waiting for the Salzburg bus (usually right alongside) - they are used to everyone piling off, collecting their luggage out of the hold of one bus and loading it into the next bus before scrambling aboard.

The www.oebb.at website should be able to give you times when you can make the connecting journey. When you buy your ticket on boarding bus 150 you can get a ticket valid for the whole journey to St Wolfgang. I would expect it to be about 10 euros per person but can%26#39;t give any definite info about that as i%26#39;ve never made this particular journey (I used the Strobl/St Wolfgang buses coming from Bad Ischl, the other end of the Bus 150 route).

Roley...Many Thanks for the info....I am just now trying to persuade my partner to get the bus instead of paying €80 for a taxi!!!

Good luck! I admit, at this time of year, I would probably be holding out for the taxi myself (not a bad price, considering the length of the journey) - but the bus really isn%26#39;t bad: big, modern, and comfy (nothing like some of the gruesome rattletrap coaches one sees in Britain) and with the hold under the bus to carry the luggage it%26#39;s not tooo much more inconvenient than getting a cab. If you%26#39;re arriving reasonably early in the morning so you can do the trip in daylight, you should enjoy it - it%26#39;s a very scenic route!

I will be in St Wolfgang from appx 17 February 2007 for appx 5 days- I have never been before and haven%26#39;t a clue what to expect ......soooooooo...some questions needing answers please.

1)Will it be lively or closed, busy or quiet, and what sort of travellor does it attract?

2)Will there be local transport to get us around and what are the sights??? - Note -I won%26#39;t have a car!

3)Best places to eat - good quality and atmosphere - blow the prices !!!

4)What sort of clothing is favourite, especially footwear...is it likely to be knee deep in snow or just grey and wet?

5)Are their boat trips on the lake- if so where to where..and why?

Thanks in anticipation of a flood of useful information!:)
