my wife and i are planning to visit austria for 8 days at end of june.
want to see salzburg, and also visit prague. prefer trains to air or auto. appreciate recommended itinerary. return to usa from vienna.also small, nice hotels in quiet, but convenient locations.

You might want to consider Austrian Air%26#39;s %26quot;City Steals%26quot; program, my family and I used this to visit Vienna and Prague.
Check the Austrian Air web site or do a google on City Steals. They have direct flights to Vienna from DC (we went from JFK).
You could set up a trip with 3 nights in Prague and divide the remaining nights between Vienna and Salzburg.
Salzburg is about 3 1/2 hours by train from Vienna%26#39;s West Bahnhof.
The Austrian Federal Railway has an excellent website (in English).
You can get a lot of information about things to do in Vienna at www.wien.info.at
Through the Austrian Air %26#39;City Steals%26#39; program we stayed at the Hotel Alfa in Prague and were very pleased. In Vienna we stayed at a nice place called Hotel Haydn, in Salzburg at a nice small hotel called Jedermann. I would go back to all of those hotels. We plan to use the %26#39;City Steals%26#39; program to visit Budapest.
