we are traveling the end of June with 2 boys ages 13 and 16 for 2 weeks. They like big cities and we%26#39;d like to stay in 3 areas and use the train to get from one to another. Alot of times the 1st and last places we visit are large cities and in the middle we stay in a small town with natural beauty. Would 4 days in each Vienna, Prague and Budapest be too much. What would you eliminate and replace it with. We are not into bars but like architecture, museums, churches and just people watching on the streets. Thanks for any suggestions.

Hi parosfinder,
I have done the three cities at once twice. Personally, Vienna is my favorite, a lot of things to see (palaces and museums) and everything is hassle and scam free. Prague is beautiful but it is very touristy and full of taxi scams and money exchange rip off. Budapest is nice but probably has least to offer in term of sightseeing.
Depending on your routing, you should stay or visit one of the villages in Austria%26#39;s Wachau region like Melk or Dunstein (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Wachau) which is within an hour journey. Austrian villages are safer and again more tourist friendly than Czech or Hungarian ones.
Otherwise, take the 3.5 hours train to Salzburg for 2D1N stay. Everyone who has been there loves it.
You could do 3D2N in both Prague and Budapest and the balance on Vienna and its surrounding village. Travelling between Praha-Wien (4.5 hrs on fatest train) and Wien-Budapest (3 hours) on trains.
