Is it possible to do Salzburg from Vienna in one day? We are coming to Vienna from Paris for 5 days and would like to visit Salzburg for the day. How long is the train trip? How often does the train run back and forth? Thanks for your suggestions!!

Did you read answers to your prior post under first time to vienna from about 1 week ago?
It provided austrian rail website for train info
www.oebb.at
and time 2 hours 40 minutes on many trains- many do a day trip.
Search on trip advisor for many answers regarding this trip

I was looking for information from people who have done this day trip before and their thoughts on timing, if they recommended it, etc. Mostly, people are quite helpful on Tripadivsor and don%26#39;t mind numerous questions. I tried the search option but kept getting booted off of the search page. I didn%26#39;t really think anything of posting again. Thanks anyway.

It%26#39;s very easy. Just look for train times, take the faster ICE, OEC or EC trains, OIC and IC are a bit slower and stop more often. Fare is the same...
Just walk to the station, get the tickets from the ticket windows or (faster) ticket machines (very easy to use and also accept all Credit Cards) and catch any train you want. No need to buy before or reserve seats, nobody does that and there are no offers for people who buy their tickets in advance. Train travel is just part of daily life...
http://www.oebb.at/vip8/pv/en/index.jsp will help you...
There is a small discount on the 2nd and every more passenger when travelling together. This discount is granted without asking... also at ticket machines.

MissM33,
I undertsand your frustration about the reply from Vertical who has been answering many many similar questions (what to do in Vienna, one day sightseeing, etc).
Pershap many don%26#39;t know how to use the search function on top of forum bar, hence the repeated questions. Anyway, if you just go to Vienna or Salzburg forum, you notice many posts are quite similar, especially for Vienna.
With regard to your question about 1 day trip in Salzburg, yes, it is doable if you are just going to explore the old town. Its historic centre is very compact and many streets pedestrian friendly.
Do check the Austrian Rail site given because it is more accurate than giving it from personal past experience. I have done a day trip in Salzburg. Do not miss it, it%26#39;s beautiful.
