I am starting a land tour at the Hilton Danube. I regret it, but I am going in one day early. Thus, I will have to pay my own taxi to a hotel for the first night and then to the starting hotel- Hilton Danube.
Is there a hotel near the Hilton Danube that is inexpensive? That way I only pay the taxi once and not again the next day when I had to get to where the land tour starts.
I found many inexpensive hotels on websites.. travelocity, etc., but I am not sure where they are located in relation to the Hilton Danube.
If anyone can name some hotels maybe walking distance to it, I would be happy to look into their price. I am just trying to cut the expenses since I booked an airline ticket that goes in a day early.

The Hilton Danube has nice views of the river , but is in a very poor location for tourists. It is in the 2nd District of the city.
No other hotel in that area that I know about. Perhaps the closest area of hotels would be near to the Prater.
You must take a taxi or transfer on public transport. to go most anywhere from the hotel.
The hotel does offer a shuttle bus to its sister hotel Vienna Plaza on the Ringstrasse for guests and perhaps this is the best way to go into or out of the city center. Not convenient ,as during busy periods you must reserve seats as bus is not large.
With the exception of the river- nothing is near this hotel. This is the reason for its inexpensive rate.
It would probably be best to pick an inexpensive hotel in the city center- pay a few extra euro in taxi fare but have a hotel convenient to sightseeing, restaurants etc. then be at the Danube.

Is it really only a few extra Euros for a taxi to the city center?
From glancing around different places, I am guessing it is about $50 (U.S.) to get a taxi to the Hilton Danube from the airport. I didn%26#39;t really want to pay $50 for the first taxi, and then another $50 to get from the first hotel to the Hilton Danube.
What is %26quot;the Prater%26quot;?
Are there any hotels near %26quot;the Prater%26quot; or %26quot;city center%26quot; you would suggest? I just need a clean, decent room for the night. I am not picky about hotels when I travel.
Having already purchased my ticket, there isn%26#39;t an option to change the date I arrive.

I do not know where you have looked for taxi fares in Vienna.
It does not cost 50 USD to city center of even the Hilton Danube.
Check these transfer services.
rates 23 -27 euro ( 29-35 US dollars)
www.airportdriver.at
www.airportservice.at
www.ck-airportservice.at
a driver meets you at the arriivals Hall assists with you luggage and transports you to your destination
Above price will apply to Hilton Danube ( 2nd District ) or city center ( 1st District)
I suggest you check the Ibis Messe Hotel- Lasallestrasse 7 ( not far from the Prater) for a less expensive hotel probably the best ,least expensive and nearset to the to the Hilton Danube There were recently quoting 66 euro per night for february
www.ibishotel.com
more expensive in the same area
Austria Trend Messe Hotel - Messestrasse 2
They some times have special rates when no conventions are at the messe center ( Convention and Exhibit Center.)
The Prater is a world famous park and amusement area- home to the large ferris wheel featured in the movie %26quot; The Third Man%26quot; and a James Bond movie among others. Also often used as a symbol of Vienna.
The Prater was formerly a hunting ground of the Emperors- later given over to the people- still a favorite of Vienna people for outdoor activities - walking , jogging , dog walking , bike riding etc.and at one end a large amusement park
From the above mentioned hotels to the Hilton Danube the taxi cost would probably be less than 10 euro.

Wow. Thanks. You are a funnel of knowledge!
I had no idea what the prater was. I will go check out the hotels you mentioned. With taxis not as expensive as I expected, I may stay in the first district (see what I learned on the board today--I didn%26#39;t understand the districts before). ;) My trip is in May, so I have time to learn more. :-) Jennifer

As Vertical writes the Hilton Danube is very, very isolated.By all means take the metro out for a nice walk along the river then walk back through the Prater but dont stay at that hotel.
