During May my husband and I will be going from Vienna to Innsbruck having two days there and than travelling to Frankfurt.
What would be the best way to purchase the tickets for these journeys?Do we pre-purchase them before we leave Australia or buy them from the station?

You can look at www.oebb.at or www.bahn.de if there are some %26quot;specials%26quot; - promotional lower fares, with limited avilability - for the routes you mention. If not, there is no advantage to buying the normal-priced tickets in advance - you can buy them as well at the station when you arrive.

For the Vienna - Innsbruck part of your journey, there are definately no offers. Just get the tickets before you go from the ticket counter or ticket machines. No reservation needed, just board the train you want.
Fare for 2 people travelling together is € 93,20 in 2nd and € 153,40 in 1st class. On all trains marked named %26quot;OEC%26quot; or %26quot;ÖBB-EC%26quot; you can also travel Business class, which is 1st class ticket + 15 € per person... but 2nd class is definately fine and about 90% travel 2nd class.
Website: ÖBB (Austrian Railways): www.oebb.at
Direct link to the online-timetable: http://fahrplan.oebb.at/bin/query.exe/en
For the Innsbruck-Frankfurt part, have a look at www.bahn.de --%26gt; Internat. Guests
Fares range from € 181,20 to 211,20... but you won%26#39;t save any money buying in advance. You can get your ticket at any austrian ticket counter.

Robbi,
besides the normal tickets there are sometimes %26quot;Europa Spezial%26quot; tickets in Germany (equivalent to the austrian Sparschiene) which can be much cheaper than the regular tickets. It can pay off to watch for these offers instead of giving up. If there aren%26#39;t any, normal tickets can still be bought at the counter.

Yes altamiro, I know that and have used them already... but they are only for travelling from Germany to another country... (and return) but no oneway tickets from abroad to Germany.
