Salzberg to St Johann in Tirol

Hi,

My husband and I and two other friends will be travel to St Johann in Tirol on Sunday. We enquired about a taxi for the transfer but it was 114 euro%26#39;s. What is the best alternative to taking a taxi?

Thanks

Depending on your travel times there are trains, some direct and others where you must change. The website www.oebb.at has

details of the timetable. The website has facilities for searching in English.

For example, at 11.04 on Sunday there is a direct train from Salzburg to St Johann in Tirol (IC 690) which takes 2.5 hrs. Or there%26#39;s one at 12.31 (OEC 162) where you must change onto another train at Wörgl (REX 1511) - the whole journey takes just over 2 hrs.

It costs from 21.70 euros one way per person (2nd class). You can buy tix at the train station.

Hope that helps!

Ha, I just saw the price you were quoted for the taxi ride - compared with nearly 87 euros for the 4 of you via train, plus the taxi or bus fare from the airport to Salzburg train station (say 12 euros taxi or 7.20 euros by busfor four people) - it might be worth taking the taxi to St Johann after all - and it would be direct with no hassle about jumping on and off trains with all your luggage!

I take that back again (sorry for the repeat postings!) I forgot the discount for 2 people travelling together. Two people would make the journey via train for 22.70 for the pair - so four people would only cost you 45.40. Which is quite a saving on the taxi after all!

The two-for-one price is called an Ein-Plus Freizeit ticket, and if you buy the tix for four people at the railway station they will give it to you automatically - they always give you the cheapest available fare automatically (not like travelling by train in the UK!!!)
