transfers fromsalzburg airport to st. johann im tirol

Hi,

Does anyone know the best way to get from Salzburg airport to St Johann in August?

We arrive about 18.00 on a Friday and leave at 16.00 on a Sunday.

Taxi transfers seem to be very expensive.

We would be grateful for any info.

Thanks

Why not pick up a hire car at the airport and leave it back on Sunday?It%26#39;s a very easy drive to St.Johann...no autobahns...and the surrounding scenery is so fabulous it%26#39;s great to be able to stop wherever you want. Most hotels in St.Johann have guest parking. Car hire is around €35 per day so would probably work out cheaper than two taxis. If you don%26#39;t want to drive the Post bus system in Austria is excellent.

I checked out the train connections and a rental car (aka car hire) looks like your best bet. There%26#39;s a train at around 20:00hrs, it takes 2 1/2 hrs and you have to change in Woergl.

Your best road is turn left as you leave the airport, continue on this road past the autobahn (don%26#39;t take it, it%26#39;ll cost you toll) on to Bad Reichenhall. Take the Reichenhall by-pass to Lofer. Continue in Lofer to St. Johann. Especially between Lofer and S.J it is a vety scenic drive.

If you want to take a rental car, which will be the fastest and most comfortable way of travelling, have a look at www.map24.com which will give you directions.

But you can take the Autobahn, there%26#39;s no toll and every rental car will have a vignette (toll sticker, valid for one year).

And here%26#39;s a list of all rental car companies at Salzburg Airport.

Thanks to all who have replied.

You have given us plenty of food for thought.

Cheers.
