Hi all,
Planning a long ski weekend at end February. Since we are concerned about snow conditions, we thought a glacier to be best. We skied Kitzsteinhorn about 2 weeks ago, and conditions on the glacier were great (though not good on other mountains such as Schmittenhoehe in Zell am See). We thought to try somewhere new-- quality of skiing is top priority, also would prefer a variety of blue and red pistes. Any suggestions?
Thanks in advance!

I forgot also to say that it does not have to be a glacier-- any resort with good snow will do!
Cheers

For a glacier
try Hintertux at the end of the Zillertal. Easy to reach from Germany

numerous red and blue pistes
I was in Obertauern about 10 days ago. Good skiing -less than one hour south of Salzburg

Thanks vertical. I looked at the Piste plan, Hintertux looks like a good option for us. A colleague mentioned Stubai as well, any thoughts?
On the other hand, it is finally cold here with a little snow, hope the trend continues into February and all the resorts will be getting back on track.
Thanks again!

We had some snow also , but not great amounts most places.
Stubai say s30 cm. Hintertux 15 cm -new snow.
Stubai says 120 cm Hintertux 130 cm snow- if you believe propaganda.
Not really enough to greatly help the lower places - but it appears to stay colder for some days. Hopefully some more snow.
I have always preferred Hintertux over Stubai. Hintertux is higher the run to the valley is often open and the runs to the middle station are good.
I think both places advertise similar kilometrers of pistes but it seems like more at Hintertux.
Much better choice of nearby accomodations at Hinertux but that is my bias.
Minus at Hintertux - always seems colder to me.
If good snow many other places in the valley before Hintertux-Lanersbach, Finkenberg, Mayrhofen, offer nice ski opportunities with connecting lifts

Hi Jess
Thank goodness for the snow!! We%26#39;re near the bregenzewald, and we%26#39;ve got about 2 foot at the moment, and hoping the local slopes will open soon!!!
We went to Obergurgl/Hochgurgl last november (although normally good snow, it was still a little scarce) and also skied Soeldon glacier. The resorts are at the end of the Oetz valley and usually very good ski conditions, with fantastic views and plenty of blues/reds. Obergurgl village is at around about 2000m, so the mountains are normally snow sure and back onto the Italian alps. Not alot in the village, a few bars, and is mainly large 4* hotels with entertainment. For a really lively time stay in Soelden. Apres ski, bars, restaurants, plenty of pensions to hotels, etc. They are on separate ski passes, but depends what you want and is only 15mins car ride between the two.
Hintertux is also good, and if there is plenty of snow get the super zillertal pass and do Gerlos, Mayrhofen, Kaltenbach, etc. Can highly recommend! We found it a bit of a drag driving down the Ziller valley when we went to the glacier, so stay near the end if you ski the glacier.
Hope this helps!

Have you considered the Hochkoenig range, it keeps the snow well, particularly the Muehlbach am Hochkoenig end of the valley where I heard they were bussing people to today due to it having good conditions.

Thanks for the input everyone. Probably going to wait to make plans and watch the snow reports over the next few weeks; now we have more options than I first realized.
Happy skiing!
