Help,
We are a family of 2 adults and one child aged 10years and are going to Salzburg next month. We have pre booked a trip into the mountains to ski at Leogang, but have been told we need a ski instructor costing £200.00 for 4 hours. this cant be right. Anyone with any ideas??? we are only going up the mountain as a one off and probably wont do it again.
please help!!!!!!!!!!

Have you ever been on skis before? If not you do need lessons but what does the price mentioned include? You are correct - it is much too much.
A one and only time on skis- much better just to buy a roung trip lift ticket to the top of the mountain and enjoy the scene.
I suggest that you view these websites for information on Leogang, ski lifts, snow conditions and price of ski lessons.
Your decision after these facts may be very easy.

hi
We have just returned from a 5 day break in Salzburg. We also done a one day skiing trip from Salzburg, we went on the Snow Shuttle to Obertauren about 80 mins by bus from Salzburg. Neither myself or my husband skied before so we decided to book a lesson with an instructor. We did not book this in advance, we just asked the guide on the morning that we took the trip and he phoned ahead and made the reservation. We could only get a half day lesson (2 hours) they call a full day 4 hours.
You are indeed correct about the cost, we paid 108 euro for both of us for a 2 hour lesson and though we were supposed to have the instrustor to ourselves while on the coach to the ski village another couple also wanted lessons, and as there was only one instructor available we had to share, which we did%26#39;nt mind but both couples paid 108. This is a little expensive especially when we did%26#39;nt have the attention of the instructor for ourselves for the full 2 hours, he even left us with about 10 mins before the 2 hours were up. but we did%26#39;nt mind as we were wrecked.
The extra costs that we paid are, 13 euro each for the snow shuttle, 20 euro each for the lift pass in the resort, they also had a 40 euro lift pass but we never would have used it, in fact we did%26#39;nt use our points lift pass for any skiing as the instructor told us that we were much too inexperienced to try any of the lifts, we used it in the afternoon to take a trip up and down the chair lift to see the view from the top, each of our lift passes were worth 150 points and the trip that we took up in the chair lift used 30 up and 30 down so we were left with 90 points on each pass but you cannot cash them in if you dont use them. another cost is the hire of the equipment, it cost us 45 euro each for the boots, skies and poles from the ski shop in the resort. We also hired 1 pair of trousers and 2 pairs of ski goggles and this cost 20 euro, so all in all it was an expensive day out.
So just bear in mind that the 200 will be just for the 4 hour lesson and unless you have the equipment, you will have to pay all the extra costs. The guide on the snow shuttle to Obertauren did tell us that Monday (obertauren) trip had the cheapest lift passes and they were the only ones that have the points pass (20 euro) all the others have the full lift pass from 40 euro upwards.
My advice if you are total beginers is to avoid the lift passes and maybe enquire at the village if you can buy a pass to use one of the lifts to take a trip up for the view after the lesson, becuse from our experience we were not experienced enough to take even the smallest lift up to ski down.
Any more questions just ask
