You could check out the ticket service to see what is on at that time:

en.salzburgticket.com/search…

I think the marionette performances are cut-down versions of the operas. I%26#39;ve never been to a performance as I prefer %26quot;live%26quot; singers :-)

You can book tickets on-line for most things and then pick them up at the ticket office or theatre box office. We usually do this.

The Mozarteum might have concerts but as Mozart Week is just ending you may have missed the best stuff. Again you could email them and see what%26#39;s on.

There is an interesting-looking concert by the Mozarteum Orchestra at the Haus für Mozart on 15 March, thus:

Konzert Unterer/Mozarteum Orchester Salzburg/Tilling/Trekel/Salzburger Bachchor/

Donnerstag, 15.03.2007, 19:30, Haus für Mozart

James MacMillan

The Worlds Ransoming. Sinfonia concertante für Englischhorn und Orchester

Johannes Brahms

Ein Deutsches Requiem nach Worten der Heiligen Schrift für Soli, Chor und Orchester op- 45

See www.mozarteum.at for info.

Ooh, and a performance of Carmen at the Landestheater on Saturday 17 March - for info and tix see

www.salzburger-landestheater.at

And a sung mass at the Franciscan Church on Sunday 18th at 9am (Missa Brevis)

Quite a lot on worth hearing! I have heard good reports of the marionets too but would prefer a regular performance myself :)

The Salzburg tourism webpage has this database of events which you can search by date:

www2.salzburg.info/veranstaltungen_262.htm

Hope that helps

By all means you should DEFINITELY see the Salzburg Marionettes! The opera most synonmous with the Salzburg Marionetten Theatre is Mozart%26#39;s Magic Flute and it is NOT TO BE MISSED! It is a rare experience and though I am a classically trained musician and performer, I would gladly see the Marionettes anytime, any place. The Mozarteum will have many great performances (stay away though from all the schlock in the various palaces ... unless of course you don%26#39;t mind seeing marginal musicians occasionally butchering Mozart or Franz Strauss).

I have seen the SZG Marionettes a half-dozen times over the past 30 years! I have seen the Marionetten Theatre both in the USA while they were on tour and at home in their beautiful theatre in Salzburg. The operas are performed to Classic Deutsche Grammophone opera performances and in the case of %26quot;The Magic Flute,%26quot; how can one go wrong with the incredible Dietrich Fisher-Dieskau recording! The Marionettes are unbelieveable and you will come to think of them almost as humans performing live (which, they are ... well, at least the puppeteers are). Go, you will NOT regret it. For tickets you can visit the SZG Marionetten Theatre website at:

http://www.marionetten.at/index_e.html

Ticket prices are very reasonable for such a brilliant and almost forgotten art form ... the highlight will be when the puppeteers take their bow - watch carefully! We will be going next Christmas ... can%26#39;t wait to see them again!
