Help please- St Wolfgang info urgently needed!

I will be in St Wolfgang from appx 17 February 2007 for appx 5 days- I have never been before and haven%26#39;t a clue what to expect ......soooooooo...some questions needing answers please.

1)Will it be lively or closed, busy or quiet, and what sort of travellor does it attract?

2)Will there be local transport to get us around and what are the sights??? - Note -I won%26#39;t have a car!

3)Best places to eat - good quality and atmosphere - blow the prices !!!

4)What sort of clothing is favourite, especially footwear...is it likely to be knee deep in snow or just grey and wet?

5)Are their boat trips on the lake- if so where to where..and why?

Thanks in anticipation of a flood of useful information!:)

I%26#39;ve never been to St Wolfgang in the winter but judging from summer visits:

2) the local transport is good - I think the ferries will be running (see www.schafbergbahn.at/index.php… - looks like they operate only on Tues, Sat, Sun and holidays ) and there are buses that will take you to Bad Ischl and Salzburg (for Salzburg, you may need to change buses at Strobl). Timetables can be obtained here:

Timetable Bus 150 Salzburg-Bad Ischl (connecting to St W at Strobl):

Timetable Bus 2560 (St W-Strobl)

www.oebb.at/vip8/pv/busplan2007/2560.pdf

(A) = Mon-Fri (if working day) Werktag = Mon-Sat

3) I had a meal at Gasthaus Franz Josef, near the ferry landing in the centre of St Wolfgang village (not the one out by the Schaferbergbahn). It was cheap but extremely delicious - I will definitely be going back! I got some great chocolate-covered gingerbread from a shop nearby but forget the name (sorry!) Generally I was impressed with the eats on offer in St W!

5) see 2) The ferry kind of wombles about between various points on the lake. Nice views and an alternate way of getting about. It%26#39;s possible to buy weekly passes etc.

Hope that helps as a start!

We are just back from a holiday with our extended family to St Wolfgang. We pretty much kept to our hotel for meals (Leifer - package deal with Crystal) Although we did spend an enjoyable %26quot;Happy Hour%26quot; at the Kap Horn Bar (Buy one get one free) To be honest it is pretty quiet. Not many places open. My brother had visited in the summer a good 10 years ago and didn%26#39;t think it was very busy then either! We were a mixed group - skiers and non skiers, older and younger! The public tranport links are good making it easy to get to Salzburg, Bad Ischl and other places. When we arrived there was no snow. When we left there was about 6 inches - so take your pick!

We enjoyed ourselves - I%26#39;m sure you will too!

Going out to St Wolfgang in 6 days time.....3rd time in as many years...other times we have been knee deep in the white stuff but it doesnt look too promising at the moment....the post buses are fairly regular...drop you near the train station in Saltzburg...take a train further afield.........Wolfgang fairly quiet.....visit the White Horses if you want to feel special...the place opposite is very good as well...sometimes has live music on at night.......St Gilgan has a cable car which is worth going in....gets colder as you get higher....maybe you will get lucky and it will snow...husband really enjoyed himself....you can get alocal bus up to the slopes and hire your skis etc up there fantastic bus journey going up...Ihope you enjoy it as much as we do s.tuffs
