Hi,
I wil be driving from Salzburg to St Wolfgang later on this year (Summer) %26amp; just wondering if anyone has driven this route before are there any tips and/or things to look out for/ Also approx. how long is the drive from Salzburg to St Wolfgang?
Than`ks

Driving time Salzburg to St. Wolfgang is probably about 40 minutes.
Perhaps easiest way is to take the Autobahn A-1 from Salzburg in the direction of Vienna .
Please note the speed limit signs as many areas will have it at 100 Kilometers then change to 130.
Exit the autobahn at Thaugau / Hof- follow signs to Hof . Again watch the speed signs- I often see police with radar on this road usually in the direction you travel- catching those just off the autobahn.
At the town of Hof,( 5 minutes from autobahn) you find road B-158 ( a wide 2 lane highway)and signs for Fuschl, St. Gilgan, St. Wolfgang.
Then just follow this road ( B-158)past the towns mentioned above to St. Wolfgang.
Nice views along the way of Lake Fuschl. and Wolfgangsee.
Just past Hof on the left side of the road is the Sheraton hotel and Hotel Schloss Fuschl.
excelent restaurant there- The Jagdhof- ( the first building you will see)
St. Gilgan a nice town too.
A nice drive in good weather.

Not sure if you are hiring locally or taking your own Irish Car. If so you should be aware that %26#39;foreign%26#39; cars attract a Road Tax.

All autos using major highways ( autobahn with an A prefix and some other major roads ), in Austria , not just %26quot; foreign %26quot;autos, pay a road use tax via a sticker system known as Vignettes.
With the many cheap airfares that exist today it is probably much cheaper and certainly much faster to fly to Salzburg and many other cities than drive from places such as Ireland.
Parking in the city center of Salzburg can be very expensive too.
Most all rental companies have a yearly vignette already fixed to the windshield of their rental autos. ( blue color for 2007) .
If not a vignette costs 7,50 euro for 10 days.
Trucks also pay a road tax based on driving distance ( Maut system)
so all users pay a share.
A reminder- you must drive with headlights ON at all times.
