How far is mauthausen from vienna and how do I get there? Thanks

Mauthausen is about 2 1/2 hours by train from Vienna.

A change of train is necessary but very easy to do.

The camp is some distance from town- too far for an easy walk- take a taxi-

Visitors can see many of the original buildings- a small museum too.

Some added information on a recent post on this site .

alternative is a rental car - but not much less time by driving -perhaps 30 minutes but you can also visit Melk Abbey during the same trip and make a drive along scenic sections of the danube valley known as the Wachau.
