My girls and I would like to go to Munich, Interlaken and Salzburg around Chrstmas time 2007. We have been to France, Britain and Italy in the summer. But now we would like to experience skiing and the Jungfrau in Interlaken and the many activities in Munich. But our main reason for going Christmas time is we have heard how beautiful Christmas markets in Austria are. We love Christmas and all the ornaments and things we have heard these markets have. Does anyone know specifically when these markets, particularly the one in Salzburg (Chriskindlmarkt) begin ?Do they run the whole month of December, or just Christmas week? It would be important to know this before booking our trip so we don%26#39;t miss it.

If you have a search in the Salzburg forum under %26quot;Christmas markets%26quot; you%26#39;ll find loads of information about this year%26#39;s market. I don%26#39;t imagine the exact dates for 2007 are available yet, but generally the Salzburg markets open around the second-to-last week in November and run up to Christmas eve. Smaller markets dotted about the town (for example the one up in the Fortress) may open later, but I would expect most everything to be open by the beginning of December.
The Salzburg market is more traditional than the ones in Vienna, but quite small so you can do the main market easily in a day and maybe some of the smaller ones too.
It%26#39;s fun to be in Austria for St Nicholas day (6 December? I may be a day or so out) because that has many traditions associated with it including the Krampus run.
