You do not mention when you travel in the %26quot; summer%26quot; and time of year has a great influence on need for reservations.

location- example city or country makes a big difference.

Thus really hard to answer your question.

If you look for Pensions in rural areas - probably no reservations needed in most months except perhaps August -

If you look for a good hotel in a city with amenities and/ or airconditioning- I would make a reservation in all months.

Another example - Salzburg especially during festival season - reservations in all accomodations is a must.

We are thinking about traveling around August 3-23

Hi Karin

we travelled thru Europe about 4 years ago in the month of August. Bavaria down to lake Como, then up thru Interlaken and Luzurn. We winged it and just stopped when we felt like it. We didn%26#39;t have too many problems, only on booking a single room, as there was 3 of us, but we got in eventually. Had a fantastic time!! It would be advisable to pre book if you want to stay in a particular place for a particular event. We just stayed in small hotels., but we weren%26#39;t really fussed!
