Will it be impossible to find parking for new year?

I am staying in hotel Das Reinisch Swiss Q outside Vienna (no rooms at the inn within Vienna!) for new year.

Is it going to be impossible to get in and out of Vienna by car on New Years eve? Can you recommend a parking station perhaps that will be close to the hub of activity? I will buy a map of Vienna, so a street name would be a huge help.

Thanks so much

I would not recommend coming with your car to the Inner city, some cars get damages from the fire cracker. You can go do the Park and Ride Garage in Erdberg (3rd District) , from there you can take the U3 to the City Center

Address: Franzosengraben 2

Tel. 717 16-17

Opening hours: Mo-So: 00:00 bis 24:00

Places: 1.800

Your hotel is south of Vienna and not far from the airport. ( area known as Mannesworth and near to Schwechat) You have many alternatives to reach the major festivities in the city center.

1. Drive -

only some streets in the city center are closed to traffic. But it is best to avoid this area- not due to firecrackers ( I have lived in city center and park my car on the street without trouble for many years.)as prior poster suggests but due to traffic and pedestrians. Hundreds of thousands will be there.

central underground garages are found on the Ringstrasse -one next to Parlament building and another next to the Rathaus City Hall. The Ringstrasse is the main street ( one way) that circles the First District.

Very easy to get to from the direct road from airport to the city.. this gives you much flexibility.

2. Drive part way - park - take public transport- as suggested above you can park - I think garage has a large P and R on it. ( park and ride)

You can also drive into the area of Kagran not far from the Prater and take the U-Bahn - subway U-1 into city center.

You can also drive a short distance from your hotel to the nearest train station ( Line S-7 ) probably schwechat station and take this line 20 minutes to Wienmittee / Landstrasse station near to city center- however check schedules trains will not be extra frequent and not extra late.

You are also close to the end station of streetcar #71 - this is a good way to reach city center- again downside is schedule this will not run late at night.

Best advise - speak to your hotel staff. they know that area best and can suggest best route.

Thank you both for your wonderfully useful tips.
