Christmas Eve in Vienna

Any suggestions for good but not fancy dinner on Christmas Eve?

|||

As mentioned in some recent posts on this site, most restaurants are closed on Christmas Eve.

I would suggest that you contact your hotel for information on their offerings for that Evening.

If they do not serve, they would know of places in the area that are open.

Dear Vertical,

Thanks for your suggestion. Since we are staying in an apartment in Vienna, I think we should have a family dinner there on Christmas Eve. So my new question to you is .. can you suggest any good places to shop for food? We are staying at Buchfeldgasse 14. Are the food stores open at all on the 24th?

Thanks.

Most food stores will be open until late in the afternoon on the 24th . But I suggest you try to shop as early as possible.

If you walk south on Buchfeldgasse a short distance- you come to Josefstäderstrasse- turn right and about 100 meters on the left side will be a Spar Gourmet Market- Josefstäderstrasse 13.

May be other markets in the area but I do not remember them.

If you want a special gourmet food shop go to Meinl am Graben in the city center- expensive but good.

Also a fun sightseeing opportunity as well as interesting food stalls is the famous Naschmarkt. ( subway U-4) open market .

Thanks Vertical, great information. Any other suggestions you have for things to do or see would be greatly appreciated. I am traveling with my daughter and her best friend....we all love to shop. I always enjoy checking out grocery, hardware, cooking stores and unique boutiques wherever I travel.

Thanks again.

Hi there,

My husband and I are American but live in Vienna right now. If you want a gourmet market, the nicest in the city is Julius Meinl at the end of Graben in the first district. I think they have the best quality but you will pay for it as well.

My family is coming to Vienna for Christmas and I have been looking for a place for dinner Christmas Eve as well. The only place I have found is a good Italian place that we go to all the time called Fratelli. Good luck to you.

Just in case you%26#39;re interested, I just started a blog about our experience living here. www.chandeliersandcobblestones.com

I will also be visiting Vienna for Christmas Eve and have been unsuccessful at finding a referral for a restaurant that is open. The following are all closed:

Artner Weinkellerei

Zur Goldener Glocke

Steirereck

I may just decide to book at Restaurant Sirk since I am staying at the Hotel Bristol, but would still like to try something outside the hotel since we will most likely be dining there for breakfasts.

Has anyone found a good authentic Austrian restaurant for Christmas Eve that is open?

Thanks in advance!

Having just been to Vienna this weekend I would love to go back and shop at Naschmarkt. We went on Saturday morning and the selection and quality of the food is simply amazing!

One excelent place for austrian dishes is Pürstner.

Problem- they are closed on the 23 and 24 of December.

They are open on the 25th.

www.puerstner.com

Restaurant Livingstone is open Christmas is open Christmas Eve .

Restaurant Korso also in the Bristol may be open Christmas Eve.

More formal-extensive menu than Sirk whish is more Cafe like.

Restaurant %26quot;Beograd%26quot;: http://www.restaurant-beograd.at/.

Christmas Eve Menu (drinks are not included) : 21 euros/person
