Planning 1st Ski trip to Austria. In Need of advice!

Hi everyone,

Happy Holidays! My husband and I are wanting to plan our first ski trip to Austria for winter 2007. I must be honest, I have no idea where to even begin and planning such a trip seems very overwhelming at the moment! I do not know a great deal about Austria on a whole, what time of year skiing is good and where to even go! Can you all shed some light on where we should begin and possibly give suggestions. We looked into staying in a chalet, but those seem to be for at least 7 days stays, and we won%26#39;t have the time to stay quite that long.

A few questions:

How far in advance should we book and how should be go about booking? Should be go through an agent or a holiday deal website?

What areas are the best?

What time of year do we go?

Can you recommend places to stay?

Ski Schools?

Any advice is greatly appreciated!

Thanks from London,

Amanda

Book with ryan air stanstead to Salzburg End of feb is normally best weather snow and sun travel within 1 hour of airport filmoosis a good resort for beguiners small village can reccomend hotel Unterhof no buses to slopes or ski back to hotel and from hotel, best if your not going for the full week to book private lessons as ski school is normally sat until friday you can join on a sunday but if you have not skied befor they wont let you join mid week as you will not be up to the standard of the group

Niederau is another good starters resort not too big Hotel sonnshine can be reccomended cost about 140euros from airport to resort

for nearer resort is Ellmau , sheafau soll but depends where your hotel is there a free 5 min bus ride to the slopes

Zell is pretty good but its a big town as is Kitzbuhl but again you may have to get the bus to the slopes

Check out www.salzburg.info, for snowshuttle details. You stay in salzburg, and catch the coach to a different resort each day for E13. The guide on the coach can call ahead and book lessons for you, arrange ski rentals and order your lift tickets. I would recommend January skiing over December, as the Alps have had very poor snow so far this year.
