Planning visiting Vienna for the first time this New Year. Any recommendations of places to go to celebrate New Year. And getting around on New Years Eve (on foot only?). Looking for a good hotel hopefully within walking distance of celebrations! Thinking of staying at Speiss Apartments, Hainburger Str. 19 A-1030 - too far from centre?

You may be too late to find good accomodations in city center for New Years. The city will be completely full of tourists.
Speiss is not within easy walking distance of celebrations , but is an easy ride on subway / U-Bahn U-3 to the city center. I would think that they are full already.
A map indicating all activities will be available from information kiosks in the city center area.
The main celebration area will be between the Rathaus ( City Hall ) and Stephansdom.
Best way to visit everything is by walking- it is not a long way and much to see and do.
