Oberau snow conditons, help pls!

Can anyone help me! I am interested in booking a ski holiday for the last week in March in Oberau, Austria, but have only skiied before this time of near in Norway. Is this still the snow seasn, and will there be enough snow for good ski conditions.

Please can someone let me know, i have emailed the travel website we are going with 4 times and no one has got back to me and i cant seem to find any snow reports online!!!

Any help would be greatly appreciated.

Many thanks,

Don%26#39;t get me the wrong way but I am not surprised that you had no answers so far...Most of the people are reserved regarding snow predictions and even opinions regarding the snow as mother nature is a tricky lady...

Having said that here are some guidelines that will perhaps give you some idea of what to expect:

March and April are the last snow/ski days.

Even if the snow is %26quot;there%26quot; most likely the quality would be gone.Few runs in the mornig would be most you can hope for.

It helps if you are in the ski resort which has snow making machines on every corner, but even that can%26#39;t compete against the spring knocking on your doorstep...Every ski season ends after easter, with some of them remaining open but not for much longer.

So,will there be enough snow for good ski conditions at the end of the season, I would say that your chances are melting away ...

Hope you%26#39;re not offended by my answer, and who knows, every season comes with the new set of %26quot;instructions%26quot; and noone should claim to have the answers ... The most honest answer I can give you is %26quot;who knows, wait and see...%26quot;

A good place for snow conditions specific to a resort-

www.j2ski.com/snow-_forecast/Austria/ Oberau_snow,html

Last year was exceptional for snow. Most places had good snow well into April. Several higher resorts only closed at the end of April due to lack of paying skiers not lack of snow.

Normally March is still a busy month for skiing.

The earlier you could go in march- the better the chance of good snow.

But , of course, no one can predict the weather.

Hello

Last year i went to Oberau at roughly the same time as you state, unfortunately at that time there is NO snow, you have to be there at the latest late Jan for any chance of snow..... Sorry

Best of luck in sorting somewhere else out, Northern France will be fine at that time of year though.

Hi Kim

All answers to your post have been truthful %26amp; my advice is much the same. It is difficult to make predictions, but if you want to ski late in March, look for higher altitude regions, or if you are set on Oberau, go earlier in the season. We ski lower level Jan %26amp; Feb, then March and Easter look for larger, higher resorts, such as Ischgl, Oetz valley, Lech/st.Anton. It does depend on the weather. Last year was fab, yet this year we struggled to find snow last weekend and had to go to a glacier! It%26#39;s hit %26amp; miss end of March.

Sorry............

A question for Teajay please, we are off to Rauris for Christmas for a first skiing holiday and I am concerned about snow conditions.Do I need to be worried? Thank you for any help.

Hi Blath

I hope you%26#39;ll be ok! The resort opens on 16th December and at the moment report to have 25cm on mountain! The forecasts are maybe for more snow next week??? God knows we need it. You should be ok though! If you get really stuck, hire a car or if there is transport, get round to Kaprun where there is 100cm snow and 16 lifts open at the moment!

Fingers crossed for a good dumping next week!!! The village of Rauris is at 948m ish up to 2200m so you should be ok, but no promises. Have a look on www.bergfex.con, austria, snow conditions and it will tell you what lifts are open, snow conditions, etc. You wont get any info till after the 16th, but we find the site useful!

I%26#39;m sure you%26#39;ll have a great time whatever. Happy christmas
