Spanish Riding School

Hi

I was just wondering whether anyone has taken the guided tour of the Spanish Riding School in Vienna and whether it is worth a visit when we go next week.

Many thanks in advance!

Yes, I%26#39;ve done the tour several times (ahem) and it%26#39;s definitely worth while - the guides are very informative (I always learn something new, though I%26#39;ve read pretty much everything written in English on the subject) and you will learn a lot both about the history of the school and the breeding and training of the horses. Best of all they take you over to the stables and you get to rush about looking at the horses in their boxes (no photography permitted). It%26#39;s lovely to see them gawping curiously at the tourists or stretched out on the straw, snoozing off lunch!

Hi Boreda

We visited the Spanish Riding School 2 years ago and loved it. As Roley said the guides are very informative and helpful.

We were dissapointed that we couldn%26#39;t see any performances when we visited because of their winter break but it is facinating being shown the school and the courtyard. My Wife loved being in the stables too so well worth the visit. I dont particulary enjoy horses (that pleasure is reserved for my wife and I am usually lumbered with the cleaning up after them side)) but I really enjoyed it. So much so that we will be visiting again to see what has changed.

In fact, they%26#39;ve just completed the refurbishments of the Stallburg, and I have some photos of the new stables on my website here:

The transformation is complete, this was a building site last time we walked through.

Now I am even more eager to see this, especially like the fact that the horses can watch the world go by from their windows.

The renovations were delayed by the finding of older building foundations in the area of the courtyard ( Hof)

Renovations uncovered these old things that needed to be slowly reviewed.

Note the many old foundations on Michaelerplatz in front of the Hofburg, not far from the horses. Most tourists ignore this - but very interesting to some-

Vienna- at one time a roman outpost.

Thanks all very much x
