Thanks for your latest advice,
Are the trains reliable, frequent and reasonably priced?
Do you have any good destinations to reccomend?
Also I%26#39;m very confused with the weather forcasts.
Some say 60cm of snow by weekend and others only a little snow then RAIN!!
Do you know any reliable weather sites on the net?
the one I%26#39;ve been using ishttp://www.j2ski.com/snow_forecast/Austria/Seefeld_snow.html
Happy new year to you and all onthis site

Hello pev:
Thank you for New Years Greetings !
Trains are clean and reliable- price is OK and depends completely on the length of journey in Kilometers- basic rule about 7 kilometers for 1 euro +-.
for train info use
austrian rail website
www.oebb.at.
just insert beginning point and destination- no need to prebook- just buy your ticket at the station when you go.
for good weather info
www.wetter.at
click on skiwetter- then on tirol ( region) then to Seefeld on skiorte
You will note 2 seefeld sites
these are the 2 ski mountains of Seefeld
Gschwandlkopf - in town and just a little lower
Rosshütte- just out of town.
easy to read pictures indicate weather
schneehöhe -is snow depth
Berg= mountain
Tal= valley
now -4 grad Celsius and snowing
you can scroll below for 6 day forecast-
I find this site to be good - I watch this too as I go next week for days in Salzburgland and Tirol- after the crowds leave and prices become lower.
For visits - Mittenwald , in Germany is a nice place.
The old part of Innsbruck nice too, but not enough for a full day.
The Palace is interesting as are some Churches.
Hall as recommended by someone is OK too- a change of train needed.
I would wait to make fixed plans until after you arrive as much to do in and near Seefeld.
You can be very flexible as no need for train reservations.etc.
Enjoy !

Latest on snow- good amount of new snow today in many places-including Seefeld.
Just a quick thing about snow - rain information on weather forecasts-
Many places have great variations in altitude and thus temperature.
While it could be raining in the valley- it is snowing above a certain level - often around 1000-1200 meters and above.
Thus a mix of forecats.
Our weather report here usually has an addition- something like snow above 1000 meters - you then know it will rain in the lower valleys while snowing above the altitude mentioned.
This altitude level is a good help in picking a winter resort- those with higher elevations having much better conditions.
