Day trip to Vienna from Bratislava

We are looking at a short break in April, flying to Bratislava. As the flight doesn%26#39;t land until 9 in the evening (Tues) we plan to stay in Bratislava for 2 nights, then return home.

If we take the river trip to Vienna on the first full day (wed) what do you suggest we do with 2 teenagers. What options are available for the return to Bratislava and what time would this be. How long would we have in Vienna?

Also if we stay in the old town area is everything pretty central? eg restaurants at night etc. and what time do they close. We would like a meal after our flight.

Your advice is much appreciated.

You can either go by train (Bratislava hl. st. to Wien Südbahnhof) which is the cheapest and fastes way or take the ship.

The train arrives at Wien Südbahnhof, catch tram D which takes you within some minutes to the city center (you can also walk, it%26#39;s not that far).

Train runs hourly:

From Bratislava city center, you%26#39;d better take the train from Hlavni stanica (hl. st.). Petrzalka is not as central.

There%26#39;s much to see in Vienna, get a guide book and chose what you want to see!

are there any other ferry servies to bratislave besides the twin city liner

A hydrofoil runs from Vienna to Budapest - no stop going down river at bratislava.

On the trip Budapest - Vienna it does stop .

I would not recommend the hydrofoil as it is old, slow and not comfortable. It is also expensive when compared to other transport .

The twin city liner a much better boat .

Train and bus service Vienna - Bratislava is frequent, quick and the price is ok.

The following website offers information on many Danube tours if you are interested

Hi i have replied to another of your posts.

You could book a table at papparazzi that serves good food and has a wab site so you can reserve. It is very easy to find.

I dont know what time it finishes but Euro pizza in the same building as 1st slovak pub is good and cheap.

So have you settled on Bratislava???

On the otherside of the danube there is an aquapark and spa which is purpose built and very new and clean - aupark check out the website you may need to prebook but you can get a spa session massage wrap and i think bath thingy for about £20 - Bargain.

I would possibly save Vienna for another time on the boat the fare is v expensive i would think about the train.- Devin castle is ok and you can get there by boat down the danube.

If you wanted a day trip think about Burno

Hi,

We still haven%26#39;t decided. Since then flights to Salzburg are a good price - I wish these cheap airlines wouldn%26#39;t keep changing their prices!! Still looking at all options and can%26#39;t decide. We really prefer 3 nights somewhere - 2 nights just isn%26#39;t enough, but the flights are all every other day so it%26#39;s really 2 nights for us.

I hate arriving late on the first night and then can%26#39;t find anywhere to eat - this happened to us on our first trip to Prague - we ended up eating crisps and stuff we had with us and emptying the mini bar in the hotel - which was very cheap :-).

If it was just me and hubby we%26#39;d go for it, but we%26#39;ve got the kids to consider.

Any advice is very much appreciated.

I looked at the twin city liner link, is it 27 Euro each direction? it seems a bit expensive, how long is it??

thanks

|||

The Twin City website shows all prices and travel times.

27 euro is one way on a weekend.

The price , as shown is 25euro Vienna- Bratislava weekdays and 15 euro return Bratislava - Vienna.

Down river to Bratislava travel time is 75 minutes- return a little longer.

Many take the liner one way and return by train.

I assume some have not found it too expensive as the route just started last summer , was completed booked most every day,and was so successful that they extended the season beyond original planned closing date.

If one finds it too expensive the, train for 14 euro , as mentioned in this forum is a good alternative.
