Personal chef for one meal (in Vienna)?

Hello.

My wife and my parents and I are going to spend a week in Vienna at the end of April. We%26#39;ve rented an apartment for the week. I was thinking about finding a cook to come to the apartment to cook us a meal. I thought it would be fun if we could watch someone use local ingredients to cook a local specialty. And, of course, it would be nice to eat the results. We%26#39;re not jet-setters looking for a personal chef to the stars -- can we find a cook who makes house calls for roughly the same cost as dinner and wine for 4 people at a nice restaurant?

Thanks for the help!

Mike

I believe that you wil find it much easier to have a better meal ,at less cost at a good restaurant.

It seems numerous individuals get an idea to do this and quickly fail or some restaurants try this with limited success and quality. They seem to come and go from this business quickly.

I do not know any individuals to recommend for this.

Probably the best %26quot; Rent a Chef %26quot;is the Morwald company- but expensive

their website is

www.moerwald.at

only in german - but it gives you some idea of the firm.

under catering they will show rent a chef-

perhaps Thomas Griesmayer is catering chief

vienna phone 067684229872 or try main Morwald number.

I have had various experiences at the Morwald - some good -some very bad You will rarely see Toni Morwald in the kitchen and quality seems to depend on current staff at the individual restaurant.

Thanks very much for your thoughts, Vertical and HuSanNiang! It sounds like we should probably just try a nice restaurant instead (and maybe come home with a cookbook!)

(By the way, we found the apartment we%26#39;re staying in through previous advice on this board -- it%26#39;s been very helpful, and we appreciate it!)

Good decision in my opinion-

If you are in Vienna on a Thursday- an interesting dining experience- The Buffet evening at the Kunsthistorisches Museum ( Fine Arts Museum) Between courses visit the fine exhibits- something different - a good way to see this Museum ,and catering by a fine Vienna firm
