3 day tour

Hi, I plan to have a 3 day tour starting saturday 27th Jan onwards. Would it be advisable to take on the day tours operated by several companies or taking the salzburg card and exploring places on own.

Also would it be advisable to rent a car and drive. I assume its a country with left hand drive but do rental companies office right hand drive cars on rent.

Yes they do drive on the right in Austria, and no you can not hire right hand drive cars as in UK you can not hire left hand drive, stay In Salzburg so much to do and see, buy the two day Salzburg card and enjoy this lovely city , time will fly by.

It rather depends what sort of thing you like to do. If you%26#39;re into The Sound of Music the tours seem popular. On such a short trip I would advise you buy the Salzburg card if you want to visit lots of the attractions such as the Fortress, museums, Mozart houses, Monchsberg lift, etc. The card also allows you to travel free on the buses in the city. The sights are all close together so there%26#39;s not much travelling involved between them.

If you wanted to explore the surrounding countryside and mountains then a car would be advisable. You can%26#39;t hire a right hand drive car so if you%26#39;re not confident in a left-hand drive it might not be a good idea.

Have a good trip

Thanks to both of you for your replies. Actually i forgot my registration and hence posting back with a new id.

Lizr. I would be doing the Sound of music tour but I am more interested in the countryside and mountains. Since I would not be comfortable driving a left hand drive what would be a cheap mode of commuting and enjoying the mountains. What are the places that I should explore around.

Also any ideas about Swarosski gems and places where I might check them out..

There is a Swarowski shop on Getreidegasse but also just below the Fortress where you get the funicular.

We always hire a car so I don%26#39;t know much about going further afield on public transport. I know you can get the bus to Berchtesgaden and also down to the Untersberg cable car, but others can perhaps help you with bus lines. We did go to Zell am See on the train but that is a full day out and as you only had a short trip that would perhaps take up too much of your time. I do know that the transport systems are efficient and frequent, though (unlike here in the UK) so you should be able to get around OK.

Thanks a ton LizR. Lets see just checked out on net and seems like a return trip from Salz to Zell would cost something around 25Euros.
