Another First Timer

Hello,

I am planning my visit to Austria for September of this year and had a few questions. We will be in Paris prior to traveling to Vienna - is a flight recommended? Could we book while we are in Paris or should we book ahead of time? If ahead, where would I go on line to do so?

We plan on staying for 5 days and would like to drive to Saltzburg - are rental cars readliy available at the airport? Is getting around/reading maps easy?

Where should concert tickets be purchased from?

We will be staying at Le Meridien - good location? Hotel looks amazing!

Thanks for any help you can give - I%26#39;m sure there will more questions!!

I would definitely recommend a flight (About 2 hours). Air France or Austian Airlines is probably your best bet, and I would book ahead.

Just my opinion, but I would not rent a car while in Vienna. The public transportation system in Vienna is nice and safe. Furthermore, parking is a pain and your hotel is in a good location.

Take a train over to Salzburg and rent a car there. From here you can take short day trips to sites surrounding Salzburg: Eagle’s Nest, St. Wolfgang, HallStadt, etc..

I am not sure about concert tickets.

Hope this helps.

Look to Air Berlin for good prices from Paris to Vienna- much less than Air France or Austrian- as low as 29 euro- book as soon as possible.

www.airberlin.com

LeMeridien is in a perfect location on the Ringstrasse - 2 minutes to State Opera- very near to Hofburg Palace and major museums.

Some do not like minimalist style- others think it is great.

Generally excelent staff.

For concert tickets- you can boolk direct

www.musikverein..at

www.konzerthaus.at

better music at these venues.

Vienna public transport system is excelent - safe, clean . not expensive and will take you anywhere in the city.

Do not use a car in Vienna - expensive to park- on street parking is very confusing to visitors.

Much better to take public transport and watch the city as you go to your destination.

Take the tain to Salzburg as mentioned above. - quick - 2 hours 40 minutes on some trains.-
