Hi,
Just wondered if anyone has a recommendation for a good guide book. Travel next Tuesday so any suggestions would be very welcome. Hotel all booked just after ideas on places to eat and visit.
Thanks

The only actual Salzburg guidebook I know of is the Insight guidebook which I didn%26#39;t find very marvellous (it has little practical information about buses and restaurants and so forth, just pretty pictures and is probably out of date now anyway). I have used the Lonely Planet Austria guidebook for Salzburg, and that is probably the best of the %26quot;Austria-wide%26quot; guides for the city. Maybe you could get it out of your library and photocopy the relevant pages?!!

Thanks for the info Roley, much appreciated. Have placed order for lonely planet Austria. Also managed to find Salzburg Berlitz pocket guide, thought I would give that a whirl too.
Cheers

Deano,
I used both Rough Guide and Lonely Planet Austria books. Personally preferred RG for depth of information on sights, restaurants and transportation; also better maps. However LP seems to be better in terms of ease of reference: layout, font size, etc.

Dear Deano
Most hotels will carry a wealth of literature for various attractions and the tourist information office in Mozartplatz is very helpful. You can get a Salzburg card from there too.

LizR,
Thanks for this information. We travelled Germany last year and are taking in Salzburg and more of Germany this year. We have been really impressed at the amount and quality of free information available at tourist offices in the cities that we visited. I will, as always, carry my faithful Michelin Green Guide but I often find supplemental information from the tourists offices is more diverse and just as interesting.
Regards, Gary
