ski lessons -private or group? - 2adults 3 children

Hi,

I am not sure which type of ski lessons to book for our family of 2 adults and 3 children. We are going on our first ski holiday abroad. 2 of the children(ages 8 and 9) are learning parallel turns on the dry slopes. My other child is 6 and can snow plough turn as can us 2 adults - we learned a long time ago and then stopped skiing. The ski lessons appear to be morning and afternoon. I am not sure that I want sperated from the kids all this time as it is a family holiday. I am also concerned if they are split up with abilities then the 6 year old will not enjoy herself.

The best would be to talk about it with you Ski School. They could be the best people to advise you in this case.

Normally they do tend to put individuals with the same ski abilities in the same group so everyone can get the most of their time with their instructor.

However, since you as a customer are paying for the lessons you can ask for all of you to be together, at least the first time so they can see your skiing abilities and be able to possibly suggest an alternative.

Also that first class will give you as the familly the opportunity to see do you indeed what to stick together, or would you yourself preffer different arangement....

Should you choose to stick together I don%26#39;t think they will have a problem, just make sure that all your family members are in agreement, and you all have fun together.

You will have to take in to the account that perhaps the better skiing members will go faster, leaving the others behind, and then having to wait for them in order to continue, or having to constantly to wait for the weaker skiiers, and having ski slower in oder to stick together, therefore perhaps not enjoying themselves so much.

Also you will have to consider that the ski instructor will not be able to give all of you its full attention as he/she will have to teach the group as a whole , most likely concentrating on weaker skiiers as they would probably require more attention, so it could happen that not all the individuals get the most out the lessons.

So if after the first lesson you choose to stick together, you should be ableto do that.

It could be worth mentioning that most ski schools offer special groups for children with lots of fun activities,%26quot;kindergarden%26quot;, and children are happy to participate, and enjoy themselves, so it%26#39;s worth a try.

Every week they organise a Ski race with medals and prizegiving, which I think they find rather exciting and also they ski with the kids their own age and abilites, and they seem to have a great time.

Ski lessons are morning and afternoon but that%26#39;s optional. You can have full days (mornig and afternoon lesson, 2-2.5 h each), or half day (morning or afternoon), or mix them together, so you%26#39;ll have plenty of time to spend skiing together in between.

(Do half days instructions and ski the other half together, or make the arrangements to suit you.)

I hope this helps,

Have a good trip and enjoy your holiday!

we go with our children every year my daughter was 7 today and she first went in ski school aged 3 my son is 8 they seem to have a ball in ski school as apart from there ability they go slow and have lots of rests which does not seem to happen if they are with my wife amd I even if we try. we feel its best to put them with there own ability meet up for lunch and let them tell you all about there day and there new friends maybe some of them are in your accomodation so they have someone to play with after its a good family holiday but can give the children lots of confidence too

This has been helpful. I think we are now opting for a group lesson.

Does anyone have any recommendations for ski schools in Obertauern? We are staying at the Petesrbuhel hotel

Hi,

We used the Koch Ski School for our 3 kids (ages 6, 7, and 10) and me (age....well, let%26#39;s not go there) just before Christmas. It was my first time on skis, the kids had gone for the last three years. We all had excellent instructors who spoke wonderful English. I loved being away from the kids to learn at my own pace - they tend to just swooosh down the mountain at this point in their lives, while I needed to learn how to put on my boots and skis! Both groups ran separately - but there was at least one other family group that had an instructor just for themselves (parents and kids) and seemed to be having a grand family holiday. I recommend the Koch school without reservation - all of us were having a blast by the end of our our days of lessons, even I won my little slalom race down one of the real runs. Enjoy Oberauern - it%26#39;s an absolutely great place to ski.
