Hiking with Family of Four

We have four unplanned nights between Venice and Salzburg and we want to go hiking in the Austrian Alps. With our two children, boys ages 10 and 9 we would like to find a base and hike for several of these days. Ideally we would for a couple of hours to an interesting destination, and / or resturant, and hike back down to our hotel. An ideal location would be accessible by train. Any suggestions?
