Thanks Roley.another query

Thanks for info, am amazed someone up. It%26#39;s 9pm here what time are you? Wondering if you have heard of K%26amp;T boarding house mentioned in Rick Steves book, its on Mariahilfer strasse. Also as you are expert, where would you reccommend to stay in salzburg, our next stop?

Thanks again, bel

Hi Belmisty,

Sorry to interrupt your query for Roley. Mariahilfer Strasse is called the %26quot;Champs Elysees%26quot; of Vienna but it is not at all that attractive. Westbahnhof is not the station you want to use regularly to go to city center as with most city%26#39;s central station.

Staying within the city center or near ringstrasse is probably the best idea. Pension houses tend to be more intimate and cleaner.

Alex is quite right about the Mariahilferstrasse - I don%26#39;t know the Champs Elysee but the MHS is kind of grim - lots of shops but few restaurants and other amenities and though well linked to other areas by the U3, it%26#39;s not an area in which you will want to spend a lot of time.

I think other posters have discussed the K%26amp;T boarding house so try doing a search of the forum and you may find these posts. I think the general verdict was very basic and inclined to be noisy but clean and a good bargain.

If you want a bargain in Salzburg and have the legs for a climb (no lift) try the Pension Chiemsee which is in the old town and very clean with good bathrooms, though the rooms themselves are pretty basic. Can be noisy in the summer with bars and restaurants nearby but a good bargain for the location, and a very quaint old building. Their website is:

The Hotel am Dom is also well located and moderately priced. The area there (close to the Cathedral) is very quiet. Their website is:

Hope that helps!
