Vienna+Prague or Austria Tour

Hi,

We are thinking about make a trip next Easter, about a week of duration...

However we are not sure, we don´t know what to do.

One possibility is 3 days in Vienna + 3 days in Prague, connecting by train.

The other possibility is make a tour in Austria : Vienna, Salzburg and Innsbruck, connecting by train too, is enough time a week?

Thanks and regards from Madrid.

Hi Chulapo,

Your holiday plan may depend very much on where you fly to and leave from. If you get an open jaw ticket, you can save time by visiting the arrival city and leave from departure city.

Vienna + Prague by train (5 hours+) is a good choice as both cities offer enough to do in three days each. Vienna has the feel of grand architectures and world class museums of Madrid and Prague has the similar lively party mood of Barcelona. Architecture wise, both cities showcase its own unique baroque architecture.

Vienna is Austria%26#39;s most elegant and grandest city. Salzburg has the lovely ambiance of being affluent, cultured and scenic. Do not miss visiting the surround lake towns like Mondsee, St Gilgen, St Wolfgang. If you like The Sound Of Music movie, the half day tour will bring you to these places.

If you have an extra day, visit the stunningly beautiful lake town of Hallstat. http://www.hallstatt.net/

You can spend 1 or 2 days in Innsbruck, a beautiful town surrounded by snow capped mountains. In the city center, almost from every angle at the sky, you can see the moutains in distance. the train journey between Salzburg and Innsbruck also offer stunning scenery.

Happy New Year!

Happy New Year!!!

Thanks for your information, one more question about the Austria´s tour. What is the weather like in late March/first of April in Innsbruck and Salzburg?

The idea of this itinerary is that we arrive at Viena and after visit Vienna, Salzburg and Innsbruck, get to Munich and return to Madrid... Is easy to visit Neuschanwstein in way to Munich? Are there bad weather conditions in that date?

Thank you in advance.

Hi Chulapo,

The climate in Innsbruck and Salzburg is quite similar, both being surrounded by the Alps. Weather in end of March and beginning of April should be cold but sunny and around 5-10 degree celcius day time when I was there the same time two years ago.

There is always a possibility of cold drizzle and light snow. Innsbruck may also sometimes have foehn wind from the Alps which is warm and dry. Therefore, it is advisable to carry at least one winter coat and some light jackets/coats.

A train from Munich%26#39;s main station to Fussen town (where Neuschwanstein Castle is close by) will take about two hours with one transfer at Buchloe (approximately 27 Euro). The following gives details of bus transfer from there.

You can also take a guided tour from Munich if you are staying in a hotel or book through an agent.

You can also save your train journey by travelling from Innsbruck to the castle:

- take the train to Vils which is the border of Austria west of Innsbruck and take a taxi from Vils to Hohenschwangau where the castle is. Road distance Vils to Hohenschwangau is around 10 km which will cost you less than EUR 20.

Weather wise, Hohenschwangau should be not much different from Salzburg or Innsbruck. This winter in central Europe is rather warm than normal. So, probably March and April may be not that cold or have any snow.
