Innsbruck skiing

I plan to go to Innsbruck for 4-5 days at the end of February on my own. I know that there are a lot of winter sports activities their, but I am not very well aware of whether skiing is good there. I would appreciate if you could provide me any insight

The olympics were there in 1976 and you can ski the same runs in Axams or go to Seefeld in insbruck you can get a bus and ski a different resort every day for 2 weeks if you wish

They have plenty of info, and wil send more if you need it. There are 8 local ski resorts. Six can be reached by local bus service.

Axamer-Linzum, Paschterkoffel and Solden are all very good ski resorts. Solden is a glacier, and offers an extended season. None of the local resorts are large, but you can catch a bus for 39E to St. Anton (60km west of Innsbruck), and ski for days without seeing the same terrain twice.

Having recently returned from Innsbruck here are a few tips.

The Tourist Info centre will sell you a day pass for the various ski resorts. Take advantage of this as it will be up to half the price you would pay at the resorts (E75 compared to E140).

There are several ski resorts in the area - we mainly went to the Stubai Glacier as snowfall has been very patchy there. We went to Igls however, the snow fall was very poor there - it may improve by February. You can check the websites and they will give you up to date info on what is opened - there is a link from the Innsbruck tourist info website.

Be careful with the Ski Bus bus stops. We had problems with the directions given to us by the tourist information centre - do not confuse the marketplatz bus stop with the ski bus stop (which is directly across the road - buses park on the footpath). We also had problems with buses that did not stop to pick up people at all! For some resorts there is only one bus per day. Also be aware that many of the buses go to a central depot where you transfer to the bus you need.

Do not make the mistake of believing (as we did) advice from the tourist info centre regarding the Stubai Tram as an alternative to get to the Glacier. The tram stops at Fulpmes and you need to change to a ST bus there (we had to wait over 1.5 hours for the next bus!)

Intersport provides good equipment for rent - this is covered in the passes sold by the tourist info centre.

I hope this helps!
