My wife and I have booked a week in Seefeld 6-13th January2006.
We are non skiers but believe due to information gathered there is plenty to do such as walking and also plenty to occupy us in Seefeld itself?
We are getting on (in our fifties) but both active and would not be against a little skiing tuition (maybe cross country as advertised in our Inghams brochure)
Does anyone have some tips or advice on things to do, beginner sking, best places to go at night?
Also IS IT GOING TO SNOW?!!! this was a major reasonto book just to see some snow for once as we live in S Midlands and never seem to get snow anymore!
Hope you can help, thanks in advance and a happy new year everyone.

I have always enjoyed going to Seefeld. Much to do - Cross country skiing has better opportunities with hundreds of kilometers available.
Down hill skiing in 2 locations - 1 in town offers easy skiing --lessons available..
Some snow now as Seefeld is on ahigher plateau- hopefully more comes soon.
Your time of visit is good as those there for the New Years Holiday have returned and it is lw season.
Things to do in addition to skiing-
Ice skating on well maintained areas with music.
A nice indoor pol and spa area too.
Many nice walking trails
ust 1/2 hour by train to Innsbruck for a nice trip.
Apre ski and evenings.
Some nice outdoor ice bars in the late afternoon.
evenings numerous music choices from Disco to Western.
Hotel Kaltschmid has several places.
Tenne always seems popular - just stop in each place and have a look until you find what you like

Hi,
The previous post suggested a trip to Innsbruck. I%26#39;d just like to add that 10 minutes east of Innsbruck is Hall in Tirol, our favorite town in Tirol. Beautiful old town pedestrian zone and for dinner try the Burg Tavern. We were there in Oct. and it was outstanding (and reasonable) dining in a castle. Also, from Seefeld you%26#39;ll be about 20 minutes from Mittenwald, Germany...one of the prettiest towns in Bavaria (IMO). Mittenwald has a nice pedestrian zone and is literally surrounded my mountains. Gorgeous. We loved both the Kleiner Kartoffelsack or Da Mamma Lucia for dinner. We were here also this past Oct. Hope this helps.

Hi again,
I forgot to mention that the places I listed are not a long walk from the train station. From the station to Hall in Tirol%26#39;s old town and Burg Tavern is about 5 min. and Mittenwald%26#39;s old town about 5 - 10 min.

My wife and I just returned from Seefeld on Thursday, December 28. We were there for a week, and the weather was actually quite gorgeous. Seefeld does have snow, and there are cross country trails open. Klais (about 20 mins. away) has an extensive system as well. We were with another family, and their sons downhill skied in Seefeld, and said that they are making snow, and the conditions were good. We liked just going on walks (Mozern and Mozern Zee, Reith (feed the reindeer!)). The scenery is awesome. They were talking about a chance of snow this next week. It was, in fact, raining when we left Munich on Friday (yesterday). There is a great band (crowd involvemtent, sing-alongs, etc.) at the Klosterbrau Staube. They have great food as well. Order the Schweinaxe...it melts in your mouth! The Siglu used to be the happening place (next to the Klosterbrau), but it seems to be relatively inactive. Putzis has lowest prices for beer and lots of locals. The Post Hotel and Klosterbrau have afternoon teas, and piano bars. Seefeld is a great %26quot;hanging out%26quot; town. When all the other towns%26#39; shops close down, Seefeld is open (even on Christmas day!). Innsbruck is a short 20 minutes away; Garmisch is about a half hour the other way (north). Both are well worth the trip. If you have a car, be sure to go to Fussen and see Kind Ludwig%26#39;s castles (Neuschwanstein/Disney!). There are plenty of places to eat that provide great food. The Italian La Traviotta? next to the Hotel Post provides great pasta; it%26#39;s sister cafe just across the street and to the left has great dishes as well. The Sud Tirolean Stube has a quaint atmosphere and good food. The hotel across from the Hocheder (on the way to the skating and pool) has Rudy, a local favorite entertainer....Kind of dorky, but endearing nonetheless...He has his own following. The indoor/outdoor pool at Seefeld is a great place to wind down. Swim under the partition and sit out in the hot tub pool and watch the sun set on the mountain peaks surrounding the town, or watch the snowflakes lazily drift down (as we did last year).
If it%26#39;s sunny, the place to sit out is at the hotel bar/restaurant overlooking the skating rinks. Best time is from 12:30-3:00. Lots of sun this year; we actually got a tan sitting out having beer, goulasch or tomato soup, kase/shinken toast, and/or frites.
We love it in Seefeld, and we%26#39;re sure you will too!
