Christmas Tree gone :-(

Just had a look on the webcams and I see that the Christmas Tree has gone along with all the Market stalls - this has made me more grumpy than normal after a lovely visit in December.

Roll on the next Markets!

The market stalls went immediately after Christmas day, swiftly followed by the tree. They are now dismantling the ice rink. The Salzburg authorities are very efficient and quick working.

I know just what you mean, though. I keep looking at the (300) photos we took during our three day break in December and are already planning to go back for next year%26#39;s markets. Meanwhile we%26#39;ve booked a week in June and are looking at two weeks in September. I can%26#39;t believe it will be five months before I%26#39;m in Salzburg again.

To fill in the time I%26#39;m interrogating other friends who are visiting there this month and asking for comprehensive reviews on hotels and tours that I can share here on the forum.

Hi guys,

Not only is Salzburg authority fast and efficient, the same goes for Vienna%26#39;s. When I walked on the street early morning (8-9am) on 27 Dec few years ago, I saw the workers dismantling christmas decorations and trees on the street on a Saturday morning!

Having lived in London for 4 years and spent two Christmases, I was glad that I discovered Austria for the last two years. You don%26#39;t get the same kind of XMas ambiance as in Salzburg and Vienna.

What kind of Christmas ambiance is this? To remove all the decorations 2 days after Christmas? What about 12th night? Remove the skating rink? Does no one skate after Christmas? What am I missing here? Seems a same that all those lovely decorations won%26#39;t be enjoyed by visitors between Christmas and New Years.

Prior poster does not realize that good reasons exist to take Christmas decorations away just after Christmas in the center of Vienna.

Vienna has always celebrated Christmas with fine decorations , markets etc.

These are removed in the city center to make room for the celebrations of New Years with appropriate decorations when hundreds of thousands of celebrators bring in the New Year.

The Rathaus Platz used at Christmas for a Christmas Market is central to these celebrations.

It also is transformed into a ice skating rink immediately after New years.

Pedestrian zones of Graben ,Kartnerstrasse and others also are used to host the New Year Celebrations It is important that the Christmas decorations be removed before this night. A good reason not related to a lack of Christmas spirit.

Other areas of the city keep their decorations much longer.

Churches also retain decorations past January 6th.

We celebrate January 6th with the 3 wise men visiting homes with blessings. A tradition here.
